Furious interaction

"New York was the Web before the Web was the Web, characterized by the same free-flowing, 24/7 rhythms, subgroups, and demimondes."

New York magazine recently published an article arguing urban alienation is a myth, much like how solitary individuals interacting online are actually connecting, rather than the misconception that they're sitting alone staring at a screen, wallowing in a puddle of loneliness.

I love this comparison. Sure, being from NY I'm bias, but anyone who uses email, gchat, or facebook has to acknowledge its merit.

Communication pervades everything -- cities, art, advertising. They all breed an infectious desire to share what's discovered, new, and interesting, which if successful, becomes contagious.

Isn't that how you know you love someone?
They're the first you want to share something with.
